The Ancient Daedala (Japanese: 太古のデイダラ, Taiko no Deidara) is one of the five Superbosses in Xenoblade Chronicles. It is a Unique Monster, it can be found at level 105 near Wreckage Beach on the Fallen Arm. As with the other Superbosses except Final Marcus, it appears after the events at the Mechonis Core.

As a Mechon, it cannot be harmed by regular weapons unless it is Toppled or unless those weapons have been enchanted by the Monado, and as a large Mechon, it cannot be inflicted with Break outside of a Chain Attack. Like other Superbosses, it is immune to Daze.

It is the only enemy in the game that drops Heat Sink cylinders, a crystal type which cannot be found in any ether deposit. It is also the only enemy to possess Rank V Night Vision cylinders.

Trivia

  • Some names of its attacks (Rivoluzione, Strano, Vento) are in Italian.
  • Daedala may be derived from daidala, finely crafted figurines attributed to the mythological craftsman Daedalus.
  • Daedala may be also derived from Daedala, a festival in ancient Greece that celebrated the goddess Hera, or Daedala a ancient Carian city and a Lycian mountain region.
  • In Project X Zone 2, a challenge quest pits the characters against ????????, which is a very large rusted Mechon located on the Fallen Arm. This is likely a reference to Ancient Daedala.
