After Melia's Investiture Ceremony, in which she is announced Crown Princess, she retires to her Villa and the party decides to visit her. This is the first time they have seen her without her hat, and she is revealed to have small, shoulder-length head wings.
Riki compliments her on the ceremony, and Sharla expresses awe at the beauty of the garden. This prompts Melia to tell them that "[her] late mother adored this place." Reyn is confused by this, having mistaken Yumea as Melia's mother, and Melia goes on to explain more about herself — that High Entia royalty must take a Homs partner as well as a High Entia partner, and that her mother was the Second Consort. The party seems a little surprised, but do not say anything about it. Riki asks, "Melly live here?" and she answers, "Yes, Riki. Since I was young. I cannot walk outside as you see me now, so this garden gives me much relief." Shulk realizes that this is why she wears a mask in public.
Melia goes on to invite them to a banquet (a prospect that Riki and Reyn are very enthusiastic about), however is interrupted by Shulk having a vision of the Emperor being stabbed by Metal Face. Soon after this vision, the party hears a siren blaring, signalling a Mechon attack.
