Monolith Soft is a Japanese video game development company, founded October 1, 1999, that has made video games for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Nintendo DS and even cell phones. Monolith was founded by developers Tetsuya Takahashi and Hirohide Sugiura after they left Square and accepted an investment from Namco. As of 2007, Nintendo bought controlling rights from Namco making Monolith Soft a subsidiary for Nintendo. As a result of this, they have a second office in Kyoto to work on games for the Wii U and 3DS.
